Spin Cycle!!!!

Dude, we're getting the band back together!!!  It's a re-union tour!!! (now where did I put that leather and those shiny pink spandex?)

Ever have one of those groups that you hang out with for a while for one specific purpose?  Maybe a group you eat lunch with at the company cafeteria, or a Mommy group you joined when your kids were small?  Sometimes it's a rec sport league, maybe you tried your hand at a knitting club.  You go for a while, and then either you lose interest and just stop going, or the group disbands, people's outside lives encroaching on the space you occupy.  You stay in touch with one or two people, but it's not the same.  What tied you together was either work, or knitting or kickball, and if that's gone, well, so is that spark.  You're sort of sad, but other things come to replace that void.  Sigh.  It was nice while it lasted, right?

But then...

One person decides it would be nice to get back together.  The whole group.  And do what it is brought you together in the first place.  You all realize that now that the kids are in school (and not being crazy toddlers), you have something else in common with those moms.  Or you really don't enjoy those lazy Sundays as much as you all enjoyed volleyball.  Now that you don't have a baby, your husband really could watch the kids while you sneak away for a few hours to knit.  Bliss.  The band is back together.  You make up for lost time.

That's kind of how the revival of  The Spin Cycle feels.  We used to get together and visit each other each week.  It was nice to read the posts as they trickled it.  No pressure to post every week, but there were regulars and occasional visitors.  New comers always welcome.  Sure, we imposed on Jen, but nobody cared if she vacuumed the side bar that week or not.  When it was gone, we all sort of lost a little focus.  We didn't blog as much, we did other things.  But hopefully, now that it's back, we're back!  Screw painting that last bedroom, I need to blog.

(Am I putting too much pressure on Sprite's Keeper?  I don't want her to flee, running into the blogosphere to save what she created in the time she left us!)  Thanks for getting the band back together, Jen.  I needed that kick in the rear end.  (ps, you look great!  Have you lost weight?  You'd never know you have a 4 year old daughter!)

As an aside, completely separate from the rest of the topic.  In the mid-west we're beginning to wonder if the Rapture really did happen on Saturday.  Have you seen our weather?  PB thinks maybe it did, and God looked down, looked at Peter and said, "Hmmm.  Maybe this wasn't the best plan.  There just aren't that many of them looking good to me right now.  How about we kick in the weather and see how the rest goes before we begin the swooping of souls"  I'm just saying.  I've eaten dinner in my basement for the last 3 nights...

So nice to have the Spin Cycle back.
Wow the weather has been nuts, just nuts. We are looking at lots of flooding here--the melt in the mountains has not really gotten started yet. Hope things calm down there soon.

I am not understanding the weather in your area either. It's been consistent where I am, hot with a high of hot.
Thanks for the kind words, and the scale says you're only being nice. :-)
No imposition at all. I missed it too. My focus wasn't exactly 20/20 for the last 6 months either..
You're linked!

I clearly haven't been paying enough attention, because I didn't think you were in danger! I've just been glad that the weather hasn't been so bad in Florida and I don't have to worry about my Mom.

Oh..oops..hit publish too quick. Hang in there with the weather! scary stuff and those poor folks in Joplin...boggles the mind to think of towns totally gone and 125 people killed so quickly and out of the blue. :(

So sorry about having to hide out in your basement.
Whoohoo, Spin Cycle is back. :-)

I'm glad we're all spinning again too. Before I gave up blogging completely for a long time and was kind of spluttering along I still managed a Spin almost every week even if I didn't get any other post up. And your weather is CRAZY and scary. And I'm glad you have basements. We don't in Florida, and we get tornadoes. As a former Ohioan I would like to know where I'm supposed to go to hunker down!

You are SO RIGHT about the Spin Cycle. I just went back through my archives and realized that ALL of my favorite posts I've written were spins. And I really think that over the past 6 months my blog totally wandered and became...self-indulgent. I didn't seem to have anything to say. Sad. But it's BACK! So happy.

I can only chimed in about how THRILLED I am the Spin Cycle is back. Yay for focus! The whole blog was getting a bit bland in my little corner of the interwebz.

The jury is still out on the zoo - my MIL has decided to get in on the act, since they're in town and want to see their only great-grandchild, and she's kind of raining on the whole zoo parade. I'll shoot you an email later and let you know.

I keep thinking of the Blues Brothers whenever the line "We're getting the band back together" is said.

It is a good reunion, and interestingly I too was on sabbatical and am trying to get back. Hopefully with all my blogging friends here at the Spin Cycle I can ease back into things without too much pressure.

Thanks for Spinning!

Yes, Jen has in deed brought everyone together and has kicked our asses back into gear - glad to see the group back together again and this time hopefully we will all stick with it and not give up!! As far as the rapture, it prolly came and went but went unnoticed since in the end, we're all screwed in some way or another and "not worthy" LOL...just be safe and keep us posted if you end up in Oz...I wonder if those munchkins really can sing that well in person....(not to make light of the situation, my prayers and thoughts go out to all the affected areas and hope that things calm down soon so they can begin to live again <3 <3 )

Isn't this the best reunion ever? I'm over here doing a Happy Dance, but it's a good thing you can't see it. ;)

The weather is CRAZY, isn't it? We've had lots of tornado warnings lately - and that's not 'normal' for us here. We don't have a basement we can eat dinner in...can we come there instead? ;) Stay safe - and have a great weekend!

Aw, I hope your basement is the remodelled kind that is nice to be in, not the creapy kind that you despise going into. I have to back-read and see how you have been.
So glad the spin is back!

I love that! Not your weather situation. I've been on high alert waiting for it to be our turn.
But I love the idea of 'getting the band back together again."
It inspires me to call up some old friends from the "let's have fine cuisine at a different restaurant once a month diva club".
Yeah Spin Cycle! Club.

I'm glad the Spin (that's what I'm calling it now, like "The Soup") is back too. I'm going to have to jump back on that bandwagon.

Although I was liking your idea of a group of us all meeting somewhere (halfway, of course) for drinks on Sundays....

I'm glad the Spin is back too, hoping to maybe rejoin this week if I can light a fire under my butt.

It's funny, my husband said the same thing when we were watching the news regarding all the weather related tragedy. Scary stuff.

Stay safe down there in the basement.
