Big, white box

Sorry, folks, I'm sucking at the updates these days. Blame it on my sucktastic job, or my cranky kid, or the fact that my house is a GD money and time pit. Whatever you'd like.

The good news is that we now have a big, empty, white box where our ugly 80's livingroom used to be. We have gone from ugly, to absolutely nothing, to a completely clean slate. It's magical. I have but one regret. We had the perfect opportunity to graffiti the walls, write all sorts of swears, or Joni loves Chachi, or put a picture of a big pot leaf up on the walls before we primed. But we didn't think of it. Drat. LG was feeling like he could sit in his saucer for a few minutes, so I picked up a roller and went to town. And now that we have one fully primed coat up, our chance is gone. Oh, well.

But, you should see it! So much potential in one room. If we put LG in there, it's just overwhelming, the potential in that room. He could take over the world from there. Bwa ha ha. I will take pictures tonight. I hope. I'll try.

And tonight the second coat of primer goes up. Then tomorrow, PB paints. I hope to Allah that this really is a color we like, otherwise, there's a hole lot of badness coming our way.

But this time next week, we should be done. DONE. No more construction. PB gets some free time and LG isn't stuck with only me all weekend and every night. It will be wonderful in ways I can't even explain. Sigh.

Really? Are you kidding me???

I would like to preface this post with the fact that I'm not "mad" about this, but it might come out sounding that way.

When we were thinking of names for our kid we tried to think of all the possible nicknames that people could come up with. We asked around, "what would you call him?" "What do you think of this name?" We tried really hard. And what we came up with was good. There wasn't anything that was even possibly bad. Or yucky. Or so we thought.

I go into school yesterday to pick him up, and Miss S (one of our favorite teachers) calls him by a name that really made me want to cry. She took the first two letters of his first name, and the first two of his middle name and put them together. Really, now? It sounds like something that slices and dices on the home shopping network. Not like something you call my adorable boy. And I did something that I hoped never to have to do. I said, "please don't call him that. I'm good with most everything else, but that's just horrible." And she was ok with it. But I feel bad. I hate having to say that to the people at school. They spend all day with him, and know him pretty well. He likes it there, and usually what they do is just great. I had to put a food down on this one, though.

Angel's Song

At this point, please roll the Hallelujah chorus through your head. Because we have a sub floor! You can no longer see the washer dryer from the kitchen. Thank goodness. PB and Uncle B spent yesterday morning putting down the plywood. And all was good in the world. Pictures tomorrow, if I can get my krappe together to take some.

Saturday, LG and I went to visit Grammie and Grampa, who are now back from their vacation. And there was much happiness, as this is the first time that LG went more than a week without his Grandparents. I'm fairly sure that's why he was such a mess last weekend. He didn't have his usual visit with them. But Grammie did send us a mini-Grammie blanket from Florida to let us know she was thinking of us (oh, and to keep us from having to completely cover him in a blanket when it was 1000 degrees out). Mama did a craft with our cousin C, and LG hung out with the G-rents. While PB made ready for the floor.

Other than that, not much to report. Tomorrow we go for our 6 month checkup (I know, already? Seems like we just had shots!). And PB is being forced to come along this time, regardless of whatever else is going on. Hopefully, all is well, and we will proceed on as normal.

This post is especially for Miss K, out in NY, since she'll be looking for an update on her Monday lunch! Glad to hear you had fun on your adventure!
